Bridge construction engineering covers the full delivery sequence from foundation preparation through superstructure erection to deck completion. What Bridge Construction Involves

Bridge construction is a sequenced operation that demands precise coordination between structural trades, crane operators, survey crews, and traffic management. Each bridge type carries its own construction logic -- a precast SuperT beam bridge follows a different erection sequence and temporary support arrangement than a steel-composite rail bridge or an in-situ reinforced concrete overpass.

For precast beam bridges, the critical path runs through beam delivery scheduling, crane pad preparation, beam set-out and placement, transverse tie installation, and in-situ deck pour coordination. Each beam must be lifted within a defined tolerance envelope, seated on bearings that have been pre-set to design levels, and temporarily braced before the next beam can be placed.

In-situ bridge decks require formwork and falsework engineering that accounts for construction loads, concrete pour sequences, curing schedules, and post-tensioning stressing windows. Approach slabs connect the bridge to the road pavement and must accommodate differential settlement between the abutment backfill and the bridge structure.

Precast Beam Installation

Crane selection, lift plan development, beam delivery scheduling, bearing set-out verification, and beam placement sequencing for SuperT and I-beam bridge types.

In-Situ Bridge Decks

Falsework design review, formwork sequencing, reinforcement coordination, concrete pour planning, and curing regime management for cast-in-place deck construction.

Approach Slabs & Transitions
